How to make a ladder

How to make a ladder

Table Of Contents

Introduction Ok, so the objective here is to take and make a ladder, it's really simple, which is why I added some more stuff to the tutorial to give you a little more in-depth information.

What Would Help You Some things that would help you are:
  1. How to build a block
  2. Making a propstatic
  3. Making a funcladder
  4. Making a entity in general
  5. Tying an entity with something

Step By Step Instructions The first thing you are going to want to do is make sure you have Steam open and that you have SourceSDK installed. If you do NOT, then install it by clicking on it.

Second thing after that is setting up Hammer, again, if you do NOT have it set up, read this tutorial.

Three is to open up your map, from here on I will be going by numbers.

1. Make a propstatic, and find a ladder you like, I go to filter and type ladder to find one easily.
2. Line the, now model of a ladder up with the thing you want it to be on.
3. Make a box around the whole ladder prop and right click and choose "Tie to entity"
4. Type in for the entity name "func
ladder" with no quotes.
5. Hit ok and then you are done : )

Why You Need It Ok, so we just created the ladder, good job, but do you know why you needed to do what you did? If not then keep reading.

When you had the block, it was there for an obvious reason, so you don't have a random ladder out of no where... That would be sorta awkward..

The propstatic was there for looks basically, with out the propstatic, they wouldn't be able to know how to get up to where they wanted to be, but the propstatic is just the visual part.

The big block around the prop
static is to show the area that the funcladder will be effecting, in this case, it is just the ladder, for the obvious reason, unless you want to make it bigger so they can just walk towards it and then randomly start going up.. It's up to you I guess.

So we have talked about func
ladder in the big block part, but we didn't talk about it enough. So in the propstatic part we said it was only the visual part of the package. Well the effect part is the funcladder. Without the func_ladder, there would just be a defective ladder. Wouldn't that be nice, if you could see a ladder, you just couldn't get on it. : P
