How to uninstall skins

So I have noticed that lots of people ask in forums, how to uninstall skins/use original skins.

First of all... Difference between custom models and default/original models are simple: Custom models are "extra" files which change game visualy. Default/original models are files which developers have done. You can't uninstall default files. That is illegal because you EDIT the game. You can only ADD things, not to change or remove things. This makes skins legal. All files which will EDIT game are illegal. Like all .exe files. Skins edit only visualy so developers have accepted it. Back to point: default files are files which you can't see. You can overwrite them by intalling skins. When uninstalling skins this way I'm teaching you now will delete those files so program can use default files.

When you delete skins, you will only delete custom files which overwrites default files. No default files changed or edited by this way.

Be sure to backup the folders you may want to keep (like maps)

Super easy way to uninstall skins:

  1. So your skins are in "cstrike" folder... DELETE it. When you start Css, game will automaticly create new "cstrike" folder with all original guns and HUD's.

But if you want to uninstall only one (1) skin? I delete now my AK47 skin: 2. Go to: cstrike -> materials -> models -> weapons. There should be two (2) folders called "vmodels" and "wmodels". (see screenshot 1)

First open your "v_models" folder and delete your AK47 files (Usually that folder is named "AK47")

Then jump back to "weapons" folder and open "w_models" folder. Now search your AK47 folder again and delete it.

When you have done that go back to "cstrike" folder.

Then go to: models -> weapons. There should be lots of files for different weapons/skins. (see screenshot 2)

Search all AK47 files. (I highlighted all AK files so take look at screenshot 3) File names are named "vrifak47" and wrifak47". When you have found all AK files, just delete them.

Last part is to jump back to "cstrike" folder and locate "sound" folder. Then open "weapons" and again, delete AK47 folder.

When starting game, your ak47 skin should not exist anymore.

Maybe the easiest way is to download the skin again, then look where the buymenu picture is in the freshly downloaded folder. Then go back to steamapps and check if the picture was in the same folder as where it was in the skin folder.

Posted by DiaperGravy I don't know why this happens but I got a skin for my knife and after a few days I got bored with it so I deleted it. It's back to normal when I have it equiped, no errors or nothing, but sometimes when others have it equiped it's pink and black checkered anyone know why?

You most likely have forggotten to delete the wmodel. Go to cstrike -> materials -> models -> weapons -> wmodels and delete the skin's files there.

Posted by francolun How do i uninstall CUSTOM MODELS? when i try, it just turns black and pink

I have included that in the tutorial. You have most likely skipped or done something wrong on this step:

    2. Go to: cstrike -> materials -> models -> weapons. There should be two (2) folders called "v_models" and "w_models". (see screenshot 1)

Be sure that you'll delete all correct files. You might have forgotten something there and it thinks you have the skin but because the material files are missing, it colors it black & pink texture.

So read the tutorial step by step and see if you skipped something, and look around the folders if you see any files from the skin and delete those.

If these doesn't help you, backup all the skins, maps and other files you'd want to keep and delete the whole cstrike folder.
