Vrad.exe crashing

When I compile my map, vrad.exe keeps crashing (the compile stops and the windows message "vrad.exe has to close" message appears) Then the compile finishes and I can play my map, but I notice the "light" entities do not work.

I was thinking that maybe:

has something to do with it but I have no idea what this means or how to get rid of it.

    Didn't spot anything else in there, and Interlopers had this to say about that one, repeating error:

    Description: (I think) vbsp.exe has made a concave leaf (or in other ways invalid) that can see into itself. I've also heard about this being caused by overlapping brushes or brushes that are off-grid (thuss causing offgrid visleafs). Allthough i find this unlikely, I am not sure if it isn't, so keep those possibilities open too.

    Solution: The solution is to simplify your leafs (func_detail) as much as possible to avoid this error, but usually (or sometimes) you will find no bad things come from it and your map runs as it should. If you got unexpected low FPS somewhere, this may be the cause. Finding it may be hard, and usually ends up in using cordon tools or just not doing it at all. First look at complicated parts of your map, try to use glview glview to find it.


    Don't know if this should make your Vrad crash, but it definately ain't helping, so it can't hurt to try fixing it.

    Basically I have quite a few large brushes that overlap in places so I will sort that out then hope it works.

    That is one possible cause, yes. Invalid brushed could be another, or as the description says, off-grid stuff and just way too complicated world geometry (although extremely unlikely).

    Just simplify it where you can without loosing too much of your work, fix overlapping and invalid brushes, and tie all world geometry, that isn't blocking VIS or sealing a leak to func_detail.

    Any brushes which don't significantly block visibility should be tied to func_detail.

    Well I've sorted the brushes out and now vrad works without crashing, thanks for the help.
