So yeah, this might be my 3'd thread about how i want to start mapping again.
Any one know how i can start slow and grow to be like the pro's?
Wow i sound like such a noob, but let it rip guys. I need something to do over the summer.
The only thing I can think of that's left for you to do is design.

Also, Portal 2 mapping is hella fun
like audiotrash said portal mapping is probably the best place to start its fun and the most easiest since the style is easy to make (I have a tip for portal mapping when working with walls and brushes never go below a grid of 4)

Believe he means Portal2 Mapping which has the option for using their sleek new interface that makes mapping a breeze. My GF made a few maps with it, only took her about an hour total to make a polished and fun little puzzle.

Get familiar with the assets that you'll be working with and try and take part in one of the next mapping contests, hopefully it should help you work to a deadline and give you a little kick-start as to what to do for a theme.

I'm pretty sure Zoe knows his way around Hammer as evidenced by a small collection, so let's attempt to assume that's not an issue here.

I pretty much know the basics of Hammer.
I have made a map before in it, just wondering which game mode i should start out with.
And yes, CS:S is the game i'm most familiar with. I tried TF2 but it's pretty different with all the spawns and CP's/Payload thingies.
Just want, i guess, some motivation (Via tut's, prefabs, etc.).
I've always liked this site to help me with modification of games n shit. <3
If you're not sure what you want to map, take a look at some of the maps here for inspiration(sort by top maps, and for the past 6 months or a year, and you will find some really good ones)
also depends what you are interested in. for example if you like startrek, search up some star trek maps to see what people have done.
There are also tons of game modes you may or may not be aware of, like mg(minigames) i'm just discovering myself and getting interested to map for.
Last but not least, a good motivator sometimes can be joining a mapping contest, as most mapping sites have competitions of some sort or another. (there are 10 days left in the junkyard contest, if you're up for some speed mapping ;) )
