I installed this to CS:GO and it isn't launching at all anymore, with an error saying 'Invalid or corrupt background texture materials/console/background01_widescreen.vtf'

Help?

That's bcs the vpk you're overwriting is an old one you need to hex edit the newer one so it will work with the files!
